I dig for diamonds like it’s my job.
They spawn below Y-level 15. Every edition, every world.
Java players press F3. Bedrock players toggle coordinates on. You need that number.

Strip Mining Wins Every Time
I dig strip mines because they work. Not sometimes. Not if you’re lucky.
Every time.
Strip mining means digging a long main tunnel at Y-level 11 or 12. Then I carve short side tunnels—branches. Every 2 to 3 blocks.
That spacing exposes every diamond ore in range without wasting time on empty stone.
You ever waste an hour digging blind? Yeah. Don’t do that.
Before I start branching, I clear the whole area. No mobs spawning behind me. No lava pools I didn’t see.
Safety first (or) at least not dying first.
I bring iron pickaxes (diamond if I’ve got them), torches (lots) of torches (and) a water bucket. Lava happens. Water fixes it.
This isn’t theory. I’ve filled 17 chests with diamonds this way. No caves.
No luck-based nonsense. Just math and muscle.
You think branch mining is boring? Good. Boring means consistent.
Boring means you walk away with 40+ diamonds per hour.

Look down. Check every crack. Diamonds spawn between Y-levels -58 and -64.
And caves cut right through that zone.
Ravines are even better. They’re natural trenches. They expose lower layers without digging.
You’ll spot diamond ore just sitting there, half-buried in the rock face.
But here’s the truth: caves kill people. Mobs spawn in shadows. Lava pools hide under gravel.
One misstep means fall damage. Or worse. Bring iron armor.
A sword. Torches. And a water bucket.
Always.
Use the water bucket to drop safely into ravines. It stops fall damage. Lets you grab loot without sprinting back up.

Tools That Actually Work
I grab an iron pickaxe first. Not diamond. Iron is cheap and fast enough.
Diamond pickaxes are nice. But you don’t need one to find diamonds. You do need Fortune III.
Every time I mine a vein, that enchantment drops more than one diamond. More than two. Sometimes four.
Efficiency V? Yes. I want to break stone fast.
Not sit there watching blocks tick away.
Unbreaking III keeps my pick from snapping mid-cave. I’ve lost too many tools to lava (and my own impatience).
I carry a shield. Zombies swing. Creepers hiss.
A shield buys me half a second to back up (or) run.
Sword stays on my hotbar. Always.
Crafting table? I drop it in narrow tunnels. Need to repair armor?
Done. Smelt iron? I bring a furnace too.
Food? I eat raw beef while digging. Health matters more than flavor.
